Have a real person check it →Why the paperwork changes from lender to lender
A lender asks for documents to answer two questions: can this business repay, and what happens if it doesn't. Full doc lenders answer both from your tax returns and financial statements. Low doc lenders answer the first from your business bank statements, because deposits, regular outgoings and the balance over 6 to 12 months show how the business actually runs. No doc lenders answer the second from property, so they can ask far less about the first.
That's why the same business can be asked for a thick folder by one lender and four documents by another. The matcher works out which of those lenders you're most likely to fit, based on what you have today, not what you'd have in an ideal world.
How the matcher decides
- Property you're open to using points to a no doc business loan, especially when returns are behind. Property-backed loans run from $20,000 to $5,000,000.
- No property but six months or more of trading points to a low doc loan assessed on bank statements. Unsecured amounts typically run from $5,000 to $500,000.
- Two lodged returns and current BAS open up full doc lenders, which can mean more choice. See full doc vs low doc for the trade-offs.
- Your structure changes the list. Companies add director details and sometimes a guarantee; sole traders add a personal tax summary where one exists; partnerships and trusts add the agreement or deed.
An illustrative example
A Geelong landscaper trading as a sole trader for 18 months needs $45,000 for a second ute and a trailer. Last year's return isn't lodged, BAS is current, and there's no property they want to use. The matcher points to a low doc unsecured loan and lists 6 to 12 months of business bank statements, driver's licence, ABN, the latest BAS and the dealer's quote. It also suggests lodging last year's return when the accountant can, because that would widen the choice of lenders next time.
After the matcher
Gather what's on your list, then tell us what you need. The business loan checklist explains each document in more detail, and our guide to borrowing when your tax returns are late covers the most common sticking point.
Rather have a person look at it?
Send through the amount and a few details. There's no credit check to ask, your details aren't passed to a list of lenders, and one real person reads it and calls you. Please answer the form accurately, because the paperwork we ask you for depends on it. Start your enquiry.
Frequently asked questions
What does the paperwork matcher do?
It takes your answers about property, tax returns, BAS, trading history, business structure and the amount you need, then suggests the paperwork level most likely to fit (no doc, low doc or full doc) and lists the documents lenders at that level usually ask for.
Is the result a loan approval?
No. It's a starting point that shows what you'll probably be asked for. Every lender assesses the full picture, and a real person will confirm what applies to you.
Does it check my credit or save my answers?
No. The matcher runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent, stored or checked.
Why does owning property change the result so much?
Because property security lets a lender rely less on the business paperwork. That's what makes no doc loans possible. Without property, lenders look harder at the money moving through your bank account.
My tax returns are behind. Is that a problem?
It narrows the field but doesn't close it. Low doc lenders use bank statements instead, and no doc lenders use property. Lodging overdue BAS helps a lot, even if you can't pay the balance yet.
Why doesn't it show interest rates?
Because every business loan is priced on the business's situation, so a published figure would be wrong for most people. The matcher is about paperwork, which is the part you can get ready today.
